PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — If the Pirates make the playoffs, a local man wants to take a cue from the Penguins and make sure fans without tickets can watch games on a big screen.

David Martin, a financial specialist in Ross Township, has started a Facebook page to gain momentum for his idea. Check it out here!

“An outdoor viewing of the Pirates playoff games would be so cool,” said Martin. “There’s going to be 35,000 people inside, I’d love to see 100,000 people outside.”

Martin says a whole generation of Pittsburghers has never experienced this kind of Bucco fever.

He says the screen could be set up at a variety of places, including the Petersen Events Center, Heinz Field, CONSOL Energy Center, Point State Park or the Roberto Clemente Bridge.

He’s contacted Allegheny County Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald’s office, and a spokesperson says they’re intrigued by the idea and that they would do what they can to help.

However, she says it’s really up to the Pirates, and says Major League Baseball and the TV networks involved would all have to give approval.

Martin is determined to make it work: “We’ve got to start now, start talking about it.”
